I’ve always said that going to raves is like running a marathon. We don’t realize it because we’re always having so much fun, but it’s actually pretty tiring. To reach the finish line—which, in rave terms, would be the headliner—you need to make sure you’re looking after yourself.

To help you, here are our top tips for how to stay comfortable at raves so you can party safer and for longer.

Stay Hydrated

When you’re in the crowd and in direct sunlight you end up getting dehydrated much faster. To combat this, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water. Even if you’re not feeling thirsty, just consciously take a few sips every now and again.

Get your hands on a rave hydration backpack so you can fill up on water and not need to leave the crowd to refresh yourself. Look out for free water booths scattered around the rave!

Take Breaks

My rave friends and I call them ‘Boogie Breaks’! When we start to feel a little tired we like to exit the crowd, find a place to lay down, have a catch up on what we’ve seen so far and maybe even meet some new rave friends.

Rave responsibly and always listen to your body, don’t push it beyond its limits or you might run into the risk of needing to visit the medic tent or leave early. If you need a break to recharge, don't be afraid to say so!

Remember to Eat

Would you go to the gym on an empty stomach? Well, the same goes for raves. Dancing is as much a sport, it burns so much of your energy!

Fueling your body will assure you can stay at your peak levels of fun. Even if you’re not feeling hungry, on your next break just pass by a food vendor and grab a snack or smoothie, your body will thank you.

Pride 2024 is almost here, and whether you're going all-out for your first Pride or if you're a veteran, it's time to honor the queer activists that fought for the LGBTIQ rights we have today. There's still work to do, but Pride Month is a time to celebrate how far we've come in making the world a better place for everyone—no matter their gender identity or sexuality.

The History of Pride Month

Pride month began as a protest and riot in New York City's West Village on June 28, 1969 when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular safe haven for LGBTQ people at the time. In those days, dressing up as a person of the opposite sex was a crime, and many LGBTQI people were forced to live in secret or risk arrest.

Gay bars at the time operated in secret, or at least kept their patronage fairly under wraps to protect the people that they served. Bars served as a safe space for LGBTQI people, offering a space of refuge in a society that didn't welcome or accept them for who they were.

The Stonewall Riots began when Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, two trans women of color, sparked a riot outside of the Stonewall Inn to protest the police raid that happened there that day (though there is speculation that Johnson didn't arrive until later). The riots sparked what we now celebrate as Pride after the event triggered protests for LGBTQI liberation around the world.

Throughout history, raves and underground dance music events have been a safe space for LGBTQI youth to celebrate themselves and feel welcomed for who they are. Some of your favorite EDM genres have come from club and rave scenes that were started by LGBTQI artists and creators.

What Does The Pride Rainbow Mean?

Believe it or not, each color in the Pride flag represents something different. The original rainbow pride flag has six colors which represent the following:

Red: Life

Orange: Healing

Yellow: Sun

Green: Nature

Blue: Harmony

Violet: Spirit

A new version of the Pride flag was unveiled in 2018 when graphic designer Daniel Quasar added a five color chevron to the left side of the flag to represent inclusion within the LGBTQI community. The colors in the chevron represent the following:

White, pink and blue: Transgender pride

Brown, Black: people of color within the LGBTQI community

Pride is about self expression and celebrating your own unique identity. So, when you attend a pride celebration, don't be afraid to celebrate yourself in the way that feels most authentic. Yanisselli founded the brand in 2013 as an Etsy shop after she applied for a job as a nurses assistant but never got an interview. As it turned out, the universe was trying to send a message, and it was not getting the interview that led her to make the jump into a passion project with Rolita Couture. After a few years, Rolita Couture became bigger than she could have imagined.

Rosa Yanisselli: I am the Boss Lady! As a small business owner, I wear many hats. I Design, Cut, Sew, Social media, Photograph, and many more things that I can't think of right now. LOL

iHR: Can you describe what Rolita Couture is to you?

RY: Rolita Couture for me is my baby. It's my passion and it's what gave me a new opportunity in life! Before Rolita Couture, I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life and I was putting all my energy into the wrong things, but all that changed the day I decided to open originally as an Etsy shop. Rolita Couture has changed my entire world.

iHR: What does rave culture mean to you?

RY: The rave culture is the family you choose, and I don't think there is a better culture. I was welcomed with open arms into this judgemental, free place. My business wouldn't have survived 2020 without the culture and I'm so grateful for that.

iHR: What are some of your favorite pieces that Rolita Couture has done with homegameauction?

RY: By far my favorite piece is the Fantasy Skirt we made in 2017 because it was inspired by my EDC wedding dress. I also love the Bootylicious Bottoms because it makes all who wear them their Booty POP!

RY: I think acrylic jewelry is gonna get heavy next year. I see more and more girls wearing them to festivals and they look amazing! I also see things like Psychedelic things popping! (ex: Mushrooms)

Anyone who has ever been to this festival knows that Coachella is unlike any other. The springtime vibes and fashion are unmatched because the lineup attracts such a diverse crowd of people. This year, with a lineup that seems to have been curated specifically for the girls and the gays with acts like Kim Petras, Harry Styles, Doja Cat, 100 Gecs, Caroline Polachek, Princess Nokia and Swedish House Mafia (to name just a few).

Outfit planning for Coachella is almost as serious as going to the festival itself. Most people opt for a bohemian look to match the vibes of the celebrities that attend the festival each year, and others lean into their own personal style to create something totally unique. Coachella isn't really a rave but it does have a stacked lineup of EDM acts across several stages. This year the festival is bringing back Swedish House Mafia for all of us to live out our 2013 raver dreams. Too bad we don't sell furries anymore.

What Tips are There for First Time EDC Attendees?

EDC is an incredible experience, and the festival operates on the PLUR principle - peace, love, unity, and respect. Don’t worry about fitting in - just stay true to yourself and you will! To set your mind at ease, we’ve prepared a few tips for first time EDC attendees.

Carpool: Traffic headed to EDC sucks, so avoid it if you can. Try and carpool via Uber or Lyft. If you have to drive, make sure to drop a pin at your parking spot or take a pic of your location.
Hydrate: It’s going to be hot at EDC. Embrace it and prepare for it and you’ll be fine, as long as you hydrate. The air is dryer in Las Vegas, which means you’ll dehydrate more quickly, so make sure to drink plenty of water - we recommend using a hydration pack.
Chill: EDC can be overwhelming for some people due to the sensory overload, and there’s a lot going on at the festival at all times. The festival has set aside special areas to unwind, so take advantage of them.
Schedule: With the popularity and size of EDC, there are bound to be a ton of artists you want to see. Review the lineup ahead of time so that you can prioritize must-sees and plan accordingly.
Prepare: Don’t show up to EDC unprepared to document this amazing experience. Bring a portable charger so that you can refresh your phone after all the pictures you’re bound to take, and so you can use your phone to find your friends if you get separated. You don’t want to be the friend that no one can find at the end of the night because their phone is dead!
Arrive early: Getting to the festival early will allow you plenty of time to explore, get your bearings, and figure out a plan for where to meet up with your friends. As an added bonus, there will be a lot fewer people in all of your pictures.

What to Wear to Get Lucky Festival

Finally, the spring festivals are coming back to us after a couple of years away. One of my favorite early-Spring festivals is Get Lucky, a St. Patrick's Day themed festival in Salt Lake City that brings on the positive vibes for the start of the festival season.

Headliners for the 2024 Get Lucky Festival include names like Flux Pavilion, San Holo, What So Not, Destructo, Dillon Francis, Dr. Fresch, and Cannabliss to name just a few. The event takes place at The Great Saltair, which is located right on the Great Salt Lake and offers some killer sunsets. This year the festival is on March 11 and 12th. You can get tickets here.

What to Wear to Get Lucky Festival

If you haven't been to Utah in the early-Spring you should know that it is still quite cold. The weather isn't freezing, but it's definitely not warm. I recommend bringing a jacket to wear outside of the venue and around the grounds, as Get Lucky often has an outdoor tent that can get a bit cold.

What to Wear to CRSSD Festival

CRSSD Spring 2024 is kicking off our spring festival season with all the House and Techno your heart desires. The festival is happening March 2-3 at San Diego Waterfront Park, in California. Featuring Tale Of Us, Lane 8, Richie Hawtin + many more.

This location is perfect to show off your cute outfits you’ve been wanting to show off a little more of, but still be able to layer up at night in your favorite long sleeve or jacket.

The average temperatures in San Diego are between 64-68 degrees during the day, and about 52-55 degrees at night. The ocean breeze makes it a little colder at night since the location is bayside, so plan accordingly. Our site is full of cute new styles of jackets, chaps and coverups for the lower nighttime temperatures.

When styling my rave outfit, I like to take my favorite matching top and bottom pieces and add chaps, or mesh pants to keep my legs warm. Then I like to add a mesh crop top, or long sleeve, to give that added warmth to your body, but still look amazing! Add it all together with your favorite accessories, and glitter!
